24 Captains Fail Nigerian Army Promotion Examinations  

A total of 24 Captains out of 203 who sat for the Nigerian Army Major Practical Promotion Examination (CMPPE) 2011 in Kaduna on Friday failed in their bid to move to the next level.
Announcing the results on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff Lt-Gen Azubuike Ihejirika  in Kaduna, the Examination President,  Maj.- Gen.
Joseph Okunbor said the Nigerian Army was, however, impressed with the conduct of the candidates who sat for the 2011 examination.

Ihejirika,  who said the 2011 CMPPE was rated among the best Major Practical Examination written in the last two years,  however, announced that more than half of their predecessors failed in 2010.

He said the practical promotion examination in the Nigerian Army was an annual event meant to test the ability, quick mental appreciation as well as the  professional competence of officers of the rank of captain.

Ihejirika added that the examination was part of the requirements every combatant officer must pass to qualify for the Junior Division Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College Jaji to enable them earn promotion to the rank of Major.

He urged all army officers to be committed to the success of democracy as it had come to stay in Nigeria.

Also speaking in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigerian Army Kaduna, Maj.-Gen. Joseph Shoboiki said no casualty  was reported at the CMPPE 2011.

Shoboiki said those who  reported sick were able to write the examination under close supervision by  medical personnel.

He commended the Nigerian Army Headquarters  for providing resources for the success of the examination.
Shoboiki said the Chief of Army Staff has mandated him to present a token to the best three officers in the CMPPE 2011.

He advised all failed candidates to double their efforts next year to ensure that they were not forcefully rusticated from the Nigerian Army.
